Managing the Self !

Have you been practicing the art of managing your Self for some time now?

Have you enjoyed the practice?

What did you like about your Self? And what didn’t sit quite right?

Has this Self changed over the years?

What brought about that change? Was it you, or the contexts you had to wade (or wallow) through?

Do you believe you’ll be managing the same Self five or ten years from now?

And would you be running this practice in the same way as you do today?

I hope, sincerely, that as you read this, positive responses begin to rise in your mind — ready to be captured. If they do, I encourage you to pen them down in your private ‘Insights Book.’ Then, think of a lucky few with whom you might share your journey of managing your Self — and leading with it.

If you’d like to share with me, I’d be delighted to read your reflections. Different takes. Different experiences. A distillation of a different practice. I’ll be grateful for the learning.

Now, management too is a practice — not a science, not an art, not a craft.
Life would be far easier if it were. You could study in a classroom, master the same cases generations before you tackled, earn a solid B+ or A, and then land a job where your learning would be just as valuable as the person next to you.

But thankfully, it isn’t that predictable.

Your practice of management — how you engage with situations, navigate ambiguity, or motivate others — is uniquely yours. Because…

Management is the practice of managing other Selves, in different contexts.

But here’s the catch — for your management to run like a well-tuned engine, your leadership practice needs to be fully charged.

Because the way you manage your Self is what ultimately powers your results — and defines your practice of management.

So here’s the reflection I leave you with:
Is it time to pause, recharge, and reorient your Self — before the next chapter of your leadership unfolds?

If you’re exploring that space, I invite you to connect. Sometimes, an outside ear helps you hear your own Self more clearly. Reach out to me, if you’d like to explore what that might look like.
